Ahead of the general elections billed for 2023, the National Chairman of the Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen (ALGOVC), Hon. Mrs Folashade Olabanji-Oba, has called for a better involvement of rural dwellers.
She said that local government is closer to the people and understands the needs and aspirations of the people at every point in time.
Hon. Mrs Folashade Olabanji-Oba who also doubles as the Vice Chairman of Ikorudu Local Government Area, Lagos State, stated this during a press conference held in preparation for the association's 2022 annual conference.
She said: "As top officials of the Local Government, we have in close collaboration with our most hard-working and committed bosses. the chairmen ensure that we deliver value to the people so as to enhance their living standard through improved social-econmic environment.
"The first step to actualizing this is by the enhancement of security at various communities, towns and villages, provisions of critical infrastructure, including but not limited to road construction, repair and rehabilitation, power supply, maintenance of our markets and others.
Announcing the 5th annual conference of the ALGOVC she said that it was carefully designed to honour stakeholders who have been outstanding in making their jobs much easier and realizable, adding that the theme of the conference slated to hold September, 22, is "The role of Local Government Administration in delivering good governance in Nigeria".
She disclosed that thousands of participants drawn from the executive and legislative arms of Government, as well as the traditional institution and communities leaders would be expected at the event.
