The European Union (EU) and a civil society-Yiaga Africa have pulled weight beside Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to improve on youths' registration and votes in election. Speaking at the 20th-25th June open air special voters' registration for youths in Abuja, EU representative in Nigeria for democracy and political issues Olawumi Laolu said the partnership programme seeks to address the challenges of how to get youths involved in electoral processes especially voting during elections. She stated that the project for 2023 elections is to connect young people with centers of power so that they can be more proactive in their perception and participation in governance. She charged the youths to translate their huge population to register and vote in the upcoming 2023 elections. Similarly, the Executive Director Yiaga Africa Mr Samson Itodo said the partnership is committed to providing the necessary platform for improvement in the number of youths to register and vote in future elections. INEC Director voter education and publicity, Mr Ayodele Aluko and Chief Press Secretary, INEC Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi pointed out that "in 2019, 51% out of 84million registered voters were youths but less than 30% of them voted" They urged the youths to be active in the electoral processes to realize the Nigeria of their dream.
