The Chartered Institute of Educational Practitioners United Kingdom (CIEPUK) in collaboration with the Institute of International Peace Leaders (IIPL) yesterday in Abuja held its 4th annual investiture with the theme "sustainable youth capacity development".
The event towards youth education and empowerment featured induction ceremony for fifty four African countries' directors, presentation of certificates to the graduates of skills acquisition programmes and presentation of award to outstanding personalities in the areas of education, skills acquisition, enterpreneural development, peace, political integration, religious harmony and human rights protection.
The array of the award covered the private, public sectors and the international community.
The presidential and vice presidential candidates of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi and Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed, Kogi state governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Director General, Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Prof Husseini Ibrahim Doko, Business Strategist Olorogun Francis Okumagba, Gambian politician and social reformer Mrs Satou Touray, Chief Executive Officer Barefoot College Colombia, Rodrigo Paris amongst many others were awarded.
Speaking on the activities, the president, CIEPUK Prof Marcel Ezenwoye tasked everybody to be committed to the development of the capacity of youths to live meaningful and productive life that ensures national cohesion.
He said that CIEPUK's activities involve talent hunt, originality in creative enterprises, nurturing of excellence in character, provision of affordable education through a fifty percent scholarship, and other veritable means that catalyzes the creation of a peaceful and just society.
"The activities demonstrate practical belief in harnessing the potentials of youths and rechannelling their energies, skills and talents to a positive end that results to unfettered self realization consciousness among the youths" he explained.
He called for a search for the details of their activities and support.
The keynote speaker, Business Strategist and Enterpreneural Mentor Olorogun Francis Okumagba attributed the missing link in education system to lack of critical thinking and inability to put talent into beneficial uses.
He said that Nigeria must deviate from the regular norm of acquiring education without the prerequisite knowledge and critical thinking because the curriculum is colonial, achaic and hard to translate to meet the present global development demands.
He advised that parents and all the relevant authorities should be committed to motivating and mentoring of their children towards harnessing their talents for development.
