LIONS CLUB NIGERIA SIGNS MoU TO RAISE #3.5BILLION FOR EYE CARE HOSPITAL, DIABETICS, CANCER RESEARCH CENTER
Lions Club International Multiple District 404 Nigeria today signed a memorandum of understanding with the Institute for Governance and Leadership Studies in Africa (IGLSA) to raise fund for the establishment of #3.5billion Eye Care Hospital, Diabetes and Cancer Research Centre in Abuja.  

The project which was selected after a comprehensive needs assessment is expected to be a center of excellence for the provision of awareness and treatment for people affected by diverse forms of eye ailments, diabetes and cancer in Nigeria and beyond 
The District Governor, Lion Jide Bello said that he is optimistic that the establishment of the center will help to reduce the alarming steady increase of the ailments by providing the necessary succour to the affected people.

He said that the club remains committed to its purpose of promoting the principles of good government and citizenship, active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.

Speaking, The Director General, IGLSA, Dr Lanre Adebayo who appreciated the club for the initiative and exemplary commitment to impact making said that the project is to further scale up humanitarian concerns and activities in the country.

He appealled to Nigerian Leaders and the youths to use this as a model of collective attitude towards solving the Country’s many challenges.

“This is one among the three of such centres in Africa, while the other two are already functional, the Nigeria centre is yet to be built, the federal capital territory does not currently have any reputable public eye clinic, the few private ones are expensive and beyond the reach of the common man"

He explained that “the purpose of the fund raising efforts is to provide individual Nigerians, the federal and state governments, the organized private sector and the international community a platform to contribute to this philanthropic effort, to build a centre of excellence in eye care and related areas in Abuja, the federal capital territory which belongs to all Nigerians.”

He said that some of the activities to raise funds will be world press conference to formally unveil all the activities, major fund raising event,  exhibition of hospital equipment, pharmaceutical products, related chemical products, golf tournament international  awards to honour individuals and corporate organisations for their support.
